Why we help

Why this site exists

We fell for one of these schemes too — on vacation in Mexico. We found other victims online, fought back together, and got a full refund. We got our money, but plenty of people haven't. So we keep going.

We continue the fight to help others and to eventually force these Mexican resorts to clean up their business practices. We don't charge for any of this, so don't expect customer service like you'd get from a company. We respond when we can — but there's a job and a family that come first. We do what we can; please be understanding.

A note on individual help

This is a one-person effort funded out of pocket. Free individual help is now very limited — almost everything you need is already on this site. Read it first. For timeshare help: mescam@mescam.com. For website issues: wm@mescam.com.

My experience — the cancellation attempt

I shot this video in the offices of Discover the Dream, where I had to go to cancel. The one manager in the office quickly left when I arrived, leaving only the receptionist. The video starts as she calls another manager, Trevor Barr, and puts me on with him. Later in that call he insulted me — and that's what set me on this crusade to get even.

Original footage (needs re-encoding)

The original clip is a 2003-era Windows Media file (.wmv) that most modern browsers can't play inline. It's preserved here as a download until it's re-encoded to MP4/WebM for in-page playback. Download the original video (.wmv, 263 KB)

The track record

To date we've helped over 150 people fight Mexican timeshare and vacation-package companies. It started in August 2003 with a group of 38 tourists (us included) against Discover the Dream, where everyone got refunds — $140,000 in total. In May 2004 a second group of 75+ people won refunds totaling over $200,000. A recent tally puts the refunds won by people we've helped at over $4 million, and the real number is surely higher, since many people use this site to get their own refund without ever contacting us. Great going, you guys.

I've been accused by Mayan Palace employees of having a vendetta against Mayan Palace. Duh. I started this because I was scammed at a Mayan Palace presentation through their Discover the Dream package — but what really lit the fire were the insulting remarks from their salespeople, Trevor Barr and Brian Symington. If you work for a Mexican timeshare and you're upset that I help people avoid being cheated by you: talk to Trevor and Brian.
